Our hydraulic upsetter is specially designed for OCTG workpiece hot upsetting. Our hydraulic upsetter upsetting speed is optimized and adjustable for OCTG workpiece, such as oil pipe, drill pipe, drill collar and extension rod. During its stroke the upsetting force is always constant. Because OCTG workpiece is mainly made of thin wall thickness seamless pipes. After one time upsetting, the temperature of workpiece will sharply drop to lower limit of forging temperature range, second time upsetting can not be applied anymore. Hence only one work station is enough for OCTG products.

Our hydraulic tube upsetting press is integrated with automatic auxiliary storage and feeding device. Every 180s, workpiece turning-over, feeding, charging, induction heating and upsetting can be finished without any manual intervention. Operator’s working tension is greatly decreased.

Our hydraulic pipe upsetter adopts induction heating furnace. Workpiece heated by induction furnace has less oxide coating and less heating time than traditional flame heating with energy source natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas.  Induction furnace can be control workpiece temperature within in the range of ±20℃, and heating length of workpiece can be also easily controlled. In other word, customer don’t need to concern other energy source except electricity. Complex gas pipeline can be removed and no extra labor should be occupied to take care of those gas pipeline in case of dangerous gas leakage.

However, traditional upsetting press is designed to produce all kinds of long piece solid part, such as bolt, semi-axis, etc.  Mechanical upsetting press, like most mechanical press, is driven by crank shaft, so the stroke with rated force is very short, around 10mm or so. And upsetting speed of such mechanical upsetting press can be not adjusted. When mechanical upsetting press is used to produce OCTG product made of thin wall thickness pipe, at beginning, upsetting force is much smaller than rated force, and upsetting speed quite fast. All kind of defects such as enfoldment , bona-breaking can be  found on workpiece after upsetting if forming volume is big. Obviously, it is not appropriate for thin wall thickness pipe upsetting.

So mechanical upsetting press is only used to produce some oil pipes with very little forming volume.

Until now, some of mechanical upsetting presses are made in last century, without automatic feeding device. Operator needs to handle workpiece by hand. Believe or not, it even happens in some developed countries, for example, US. It is waste of time and money.

In a word, hydraulic upsetting press has unparalleled advantages toward mechanical upsetting press in the field of OCTG production.
